Privacy
Your stuff stays
on this PC.
This policy covers the Notchio website and the Windows desktop app. Last updated 30 September 2026.
In short
Notchio is a Windows 11 desktop app. Almost everything it shows — media, clipboard, notes, files, screen time, calendars you connect, tokens, and sensor dots — stays on that PC. There is no Notchio account and no advertising ID.
A few features talk to the network on purpose: weather, lyrics lookup, license activation, optional feedback you send, and payment if you buy a license on the website. Those are described below.
Who we are
Notchio is published at notchio.app. For privacy questions, write to yashyadav313@outlook.com.
What the desktop app does on your PC
The app reads Windows APIs so the notch can work. That data is used locally unless a section below says otherwise.
- Playback. Now-playing info from Windows media controls (title, artist, art when the player provides it).
- Notifications. Toasts from Action Center that Notchio mirrors in its own list.
- Clipboard. Recent text you copy while Notchio is running. History is not uploaded.
- Screen time. Which app is in front, and for how long. Notchio does not record keystrokes, screenshots, or browsing addresses for this.
- Mic and camera lights. Whether Windows reports a microphone or camera in use somewhere on the PC (orange / green privacy dots).
- Files and notes. Paths and text you put in the File Tray or Notes. Background removal for photos runs on this PC.
- Calendars. If you paste a private iCal link, that link stays on the PC. The UI may show the host name of the calendar provider.
- Settings. Appearance, modules, placement, and similar preferences stay on the PC.
When the app uses the network
- Weather. Location comes from Windows Location when you allow it, otherwise from a coarse IP lookup, or from coordinates you pin. Forecast data is requested from Open-Meteo (and related weather / air-quality endpoints). No weather API key is stored in the app.
- Lyrics. Track title and length may be sent to a lyrics lookup service so lines can follow the playhead.
- License. To activate, validate, or deactivate a license, the app talks to https://notchio.app/api/license. That exchange includes a device public key and signed messages so the seat can be bound to one PC. The plaintext license key is not kept in our database — we store a one-way hash. Activation material on the PC lives in Windows Credential Manager (with a local backup under your user data folder), outside the install directory.
- Updates (website installs). Builds downloaded from notchio.app may check https://notchio.app/update.json for a newer installer. Microsoft Store installs update through the Store, not that file.
- Optional model download. Background removal may download a model from Hugging Face the first time you use it.
What the website collects
- Purchase. If you buy a lifetime license, payment is handled by our payment provider (for example Dodo Payments). We receive what we need to fulfill the order: typically email, payment reference, and product details. The license key is emailed once to the checkout address.
- Feedback. If you use the feedback form, we store the message, the email you enter, the kind of request, and whether it came from the site or the app, so we can reply.
- Hosting logs. Like most sites, our host may keep short-lived technical logs (IP, user agent, path) for security and reliability.
We do not sell personal data. We do not run third-party advertising trackers on the marketing site for ads.
Microsoft Store
If you install Notchio from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft’s own privacy terms also apply to Store distribution, billing (if any Store commerce is used), and Store updates. Licensing for Notchio still uses the Notchio license API described above unless we say otherwise in Partner Center notes for certification.
How long we keep things
- License records and device bindings are kept while the license is active, and as needed for fraud prevention and support after revocation.
- Feedback messages are kept until we have handled them, then deleted or anonymized when no longer needed.
- Local app data remains until you clear it, deactivate, or uninstall (some Windows credential entries may need a manual clear if you wipe the install folder only).
Your choices
- Refuse Windows Location for weather; the app can fall back to IP or a pinned place.
- Do not paste a calendar link if you do not want that feed on the PC.
- Deactivate the license from Settings → About to free the seat for another PC.
- Email yashyadav313@outlook.com to ask for deletion of feedback you sent, or questions about a license tied to your email.
Children
Notchio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for the purpose of creating accounts — there are no Notchio user accounts.
Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update this page and the date below. Continued use of the site or app after an update means the new text applies.
